Terms and conditions of subscription membership

1. Membership is considered to be continuous on a lifelong basis. Membership will commence upon receipt of subscriptions and continue only if subscriptions continue. Members must continue payment of subscriptions determined by the members designated membership category and chosen payment method. Membership relates to the subscribing member/business and cannot be transferred to another person/business.

2. Members are committed to:-

    • (i) attending to clients requirements (including complaints) in an independent, impartial, holistic, professional, honest, fair and prompt manner in accordance with the ISSE Code of Professional Conduct and Treat Clients Honestly & Fairly Policy,
    • (ii) pursuing educational excellence on a lifelong basis by way of a programme of Continuous Professional Development involving a combination of reading relevant technical literature and attending relevant events, 
    • (iii) remitting membership subscriptions in a timely manner and 
    • (iv) accepting random monitoring of such activity by ISSE.

3. Adherence to this commitment is regulated by continuous monitoring and recording of complaints received from the public together with the resolution response by members and where a member fails to resolve a genuine complaint or complaints in a satisfactory manner either:-

    • (i) downgrading the member to a lower grade within their designated category and/or demoting the member to a lower category (both with less benefits), or
    • (ii) revoking the members membership altogether. The latter being invoked in extreme cases only given the ISSE’s view that improvements in anyone’s behaviour can only be affected if they can be influenced within a formal educational structure. This subject to the severity of the misdemeanour involved and at the sole discretion of the ISSE.

4. Subscriptions made by direct debit will be due and collected on 1st, 8th, 15th or 25th day, or the next available working day, of the relevant calendar month on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis subject to the members chosen method and frequency of payments.

5. If the ISSE, Debit Finance plc or the bank/building society makes a mistake with your direct debit payment you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your bank/building society.

6. The ISSE and/or Debit Finance plc may change the subscription amounts. Any such changes deemed necessary will be notified in advance, via the email or postal address the member has provided, at least 14 days before the change is due to take place.

7. Any subscriptions arrears will result in immediate suspension of eligibility for membership benefits. This particularly but not exclusively regarding the use of

    • (i) post nominal letters (relevant to surveyor/engineer and Technician members only),
    • (ii) any reference to ISSE membership and/or use of the ISSE logo in all modes of business documentation and advertising media including the internet (relevant to surveyor/engineer and business members only) and
    • (iii) access to HMRC legal/accountancy costs insurance cover (relevant to all members). Once arrears have been cleared full use of membership benefits can resume.

8. If there is a challenge to arrears use of membership benefits can continue until the issue is resolved subject to any agreed payment arrangements being honoured.

9. Any member wishing to cease membership must issue written advice, to the ISSE either by email via admin@isse.org.uk, or by post to Amity House 156 Ecclesfield Road Chapeltown Sheffield S35 1TE and in the case of subscriptions being made by direct debit payment to Debit Finance plc by e-mail via info@debitfinance.co.uk), giving at least 30 days notice in both instances. A confirmation letter will be sent back. Queries on cancelled membership can only be dealt with when a copy of this letter is provided.

10. Personal data provided by members will be kept on a confidential basis by the ISSE other than is necessary to provide members with enquiries received from the public and/or is applicable within the parameters of the Data Protection regulations.

11. The ISSE may change these terms and conditions at any time at the sole discretion of the ISSE.
