Much flooding as a result of building on inappropriate sites and poor evaluation of water courses, their embankments, and maintenance of culverts and drainage systems in the locality.

Flooding is rarely deep but the sudden invasion and weight of rushing water around the base of a building can enter underfloor air vents door frames porous walls and cracks.

The water itself is contaminated with detritus, oil and other pollutants bringing with it bacteria and harmful waste contaminants and sewage.

Once the water recedes a building and its contents will be damaged and require drying out, decontamination, replastering and dry lining renewing.

Timber is at high risk of decay and insect attack during the ensuing drying out period.

ISSE members can provide a flood restoration service. Diagnostic surveying can re establish early occupation using moisture meters, thermal imaging and air quality monitoring equipment.

The ISSE itself is evaluating a unique flood defence system to prevent water and moisture ingress in the first place.  ISSE endorsed ventilation systems are available to dry properties out and data log methods also record relative humidity following initial drying out periods.
