Death of Geoffrey Hutton in January 2010
It is with sadness that the Institute advises of of the death of Geoffrey Hutton in January 2010.
Below is a related quote by one of our prominent fellow members Peter Bannister FISSE. An obituary published on the H+R website is available via the following link (http://www.handr.co.uk/geoffrey_hutton.htm)
"Geoffrey was a man of great vision, of great intellect, with the courage and tenacity to dare to realise his visions. His enormous enthusiasm for the good and great things in science and art was inspirational to many. Perhaps his greatest legacy will be in all those he has so encouraged in their craft, in their science, in their profession or in their art.
With characteristic generosity towards good cause, Geoffrey provided encouragement and time to me when actively developing the profile of the IRTS in the late 1990’s and, at the turn of the century, he very kindly provided a lecture to the Institute’s second national conference.
Geoffrey was every inch a ‘doer’. He was an original thinker and a vast compendium of knowledge and professional wisdom. There are perhaps only a few Geoffreys handed out in each generation. I can truly say I have been privileged to have known him and to have worked with him."
